I am in the process of filing my taxes for 2020 and noticed the amount TT entered for my state/local tax refund received for 2019 is incorrect. They said I received $553 dollars when I actually had to pay state taxes of $170. I’m not sure on what to do about this, any help?

Did you receive a 1099-G from whatever state you live for a state tax refund from 2019? This is what this $553 is referring to.
Thanks for the reply. No I didn’t because I actually owed state taxes for 2019
You can remove the refund amount if you didn't have a refund and did not receive a 1099-G form.
You can delete this information in the federal interview section.
1099-G for state refunds information
Ok thanks! Will this affect my taxes when filing this year? And was I actually entitled to a state refund for 2019?
Since you paid state tax, you can enter it in the program. Go to federal > deductions and credits > estimates and other taxes paid > other income taxes > balance due on your 2019 state taxes paid in 2020
If you are itemizing, it may have an effect.
As for last year, print out the return showing the refund and compare it to what you filed last year. If the state did some updates, that could have changed your forms. It may be that an amended return would give you a refund. On the other hand, maybe that is what you filed and updates were made that created the amount due and you were sent a bill. Only you know what you filed and what correspondence you received. We are glad to help if you have more questions.
