I am trying to amend my Idaho state 2021 return because of forgotten 12k in 529 contributions to state fund. While doing this simple amendment, Turbotax 2021 is automatically calculating a refund owed before even adding the 529 change which does not seem correct because nothing had changed yet.
Digging into this it shows that the Child and Dependent Care Worksheet is using a different calculation for line 2 of 8k for on child, 16k for more than one child. The revision of this sheet is dated 3/22/22. Referring back to my original 2021 return, it is using the form dated 12/18/19 with calculation of 3k for one child and 6k for more than one. If I were to use these new numbers, I can only assume my amendment would be incorrect based on the revision dates.

Looking further into the Idaho website, I see this guidance - which means my original return was incorrect and this new amendment needs to include the $8k/$16k numbers and 529 contributions.
Idaho allows a deduction for expenses paid to care for a child or other dependent. Idaho uses the federal limitations on the amount of expenses. The federal limits were raised from $3,000 for one child or dependent or $6,000 for more than one child, to $8,000 for one child or $16,000 for more than one child.
On line 2 of the Child and Dependent Care Worksheet for Form 39R, Part B, line 6 (page 30 of the instructions) and for Form 39NR, Part B, line 4 (page 42 of the instructions), enter $8,000 for one child or dependent or $16,000 for more than one child or dependent.

It sounds like you filed your 2021 return before those numbers were updated. It also sounds like the TurboTax system has already figured out what you need to do. Just follow the walk through steps and enter the new information that you have for the amended return. The system will have already added any additional credit that you were due.
