I'm a Representative Payee Filling Out Tax Forms. Am I a "Preparer" on the Tax Forms, or Should I Let Turbo Tax Say "Self Prepared"?

You would indicate Self-Prepared because you are a Representative Payee UNLESS you are a tax professional who prepares tax returns as a business or profession.  (In which case you technically cannot use TurboTax because of the licensing requirements)

In general, the IRS requires Tax Preparers to have more knowledge of tax returns and holds them to a higher standard, especially if they are charging customers for their services.  TurboTax helps bridge the gap by guiding people through the process. (And Tax Professional help is available in most TurboTax products- these are all credentialed professionals.)

Thanks for the response.  So, I'd just put my name where it says "Can Also Discuss Taxes With" and that's that?
