I live in CA but have to file taxes in both CA and NY. I worked in NY for 24 days for "Short-term Business Travel". Is it possible to manually enter the amount for NY?

In the app, there are only options for # of days and percentage. Entering percentage computes an approximate but I have the amount the company allocated. Also, do I need to manually update my California tax income or will TurboTax do this automatically?

Yes, you can enter the New York wages if you have a different amount.  For California, you must include all the income because you are a resident, but you will get a credit for any taxes paid to New York so you will not be double taxed.

Thank you! Would you know how to do this in the Turbo Tax UI? It looks like there are not any options to enter manually. Only options to enter the number of days or the percentage, etc?

Prepare the New York nonresident form before the California return. Answer the questions in the interview. Yes, this may involve calculation on the part of the user.

Each state has its own rules for calculating taxable income for nonresidents. New York has one form, Form IT-203, Nonresident and Part-Year Resident Income Tax Return, that covers taxpayers who were nonresidents either part or all of the year. See this New York webpage for more information.

When you prepare California, you can claim a credit for any tax paid as shown on your New York return. TurboTax will prompt you for the information.
