It depends but you will not need to file a PA nonresident state tax return just for owning a home in PA.
Paying mortgage interest does not count as income. However, if you are receiving seller-financed interest payments from a property located in PA that you sold, you may need to file a PA nonresident state income tax return to report this PA-sourced income.
According to the PA Department of Revenue, if
you are a PA resident, nonresident or a part-year PA resident, you must file
a PA tax return if:
- You received total PA gross
taxable income in excess of $33, even if no tax is due with your PA
return; and/or
- You incurred a loss from any
transaction as an individual, sole proprietor, partner in a partnership or
PA S corporation shareholder.
