I have a pr yr MA Research Credit that Im using on 2020 MA 355S. Sch CMS says I must include Schedule RC. I opened Sch RC and entered all 0, but there is still an error.

I have a MA Research Credit for the prior year that I am using on 2020 MA Form 355S. When I enter the prior year Research Credit on Schedule CMS, it tells me I must include Schedule RC, but I don't have a current year Research Credit so the amounts on Schedule RC will be 0. Nevertheless, I opened Schedule RC and entered all zeros, but there is still an error on Schedule CMS.  Does anyone have any suggestions to remove the error?  I'm afraid I will not be able to e-file unless I fix the error somehow.  Thanks!

Yes, you may need to delete all the zeros entered on form RC and leave the line blank to clear the error. For any boxes that do not have an amounts in on any form, you would leave them blank in TurboTax, instead of entering a zero.  You may do a state review:

  • Click State Review tab located on the upper right hand side of the screen
  • Click review to each details ,and it will take you to form that has error/s.
  • You may also do a Federal review by clicking Federal Review tab.

Hi Joanna,

Thanks for the reply.  I have done that.  I have zeroed out every line on Form RC, still an error on Form CMS; I have deleted Form RC altogether, still the same error.

Error says:  "Credit type Schedule RC should be completed to claim the Research Credit since credit type REARCH and related credit information have been entered on Schedule CMS."

It seems since I have entered a Research Credit on Schedule CMS, albeit a prior year credit carryover, it is still expecting amounts on Schedule RC.  However, since I have no current year amounts, there is nothing to enter on Schedule RC and it will not accept 0 as an amount.

I don't know how to get around this.  It must be a coding error I have to assume.  I have called Turbotax without any luck.
