Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I have 2 kids. On the Maryland return it only has one box to enter 529 contributions. Should I combine their contributions? I thought they needed to be separated.

Maryland 529 website says that if you are an account holder or a contributioner, you can deduct $2,500 per account.  I understnad that this means, my husband and I can each deduct $2,500 per account that we have for the kids.  I have 2 kids.  For example, we contributed $2,000 to both of thier "College Investment Plans".  So $4,000 total into 2 different accounts.  In Turbo Tax, it only lists one box for "MD College Investment Plan" contributions.  Do I enter the combined contributions ($4,000).  I thought that they would need to be itemized per child.

For Maryland, you can deduct up to $2,500 per beneficiary (in your case, per child).

Since you have two children you would be able to deduct up to $5,000 in contributions.

The tax return does not require you to itemize per child when filing the return, but you should enter no more than the maximum allowed for the deduction into the box in TurboTax for transfer to the tax forms.

If you had contributed $6,000, for example, you would enter just $5,000 - the amount deductible - into the entry box.

In your case, you will enter the full $4,000.
