Hello!
In 2024, I had income while working remotely from MA for an employer in MD. That whole year I was not in MD, all the work was physically than while in MA. Because one of my W2 from was from that employer in MD, TurboTax prompt me to file a non-resident state tax return with MD, which I did. After inquiring, I was told that I didn't need to file tax return with MD. I did get a credit from MA, but it was way less than what I paid in taxes to MD. How do I amend my 2024 tax return to keep only the MA state return? I'm able to amend online, I appreciate if anyone, who is familiar with the two-state tax return and MD, can describe exactly what to modify to amend online in TurboTax.
Thank you!

Since you were 100% remote in MA, you had $0.00 of Maryland-sourced income. To fix this, you need to tell Maryland that your income was actually $0.00 and then update your Massachusetts return to stop claiming a credit for taxes paid to another state (since you're getting that money back from MD instead).
To fix this, you need to amend Maryland and report $0.00 as taxable income to get a refund of tax paid.
Step 1: Open your 2024 return in TurboTax and select "Amend (change) a filed return."
Step 2: On the "Why are you amending?" screen, choose "The IRS or state contacted me" and "Continue," this will allow you to just amend the state and leave the federal return as it was.
Step 3: Go into the Maryland state interview. Look for the screen titled "Maryland Wages" or "Allocate Income to Maryland."
Step 4: You will see your total W-2 income. You must change the amount "Earned in Maryland" to $0.00.Then, update your Massachusetts return to remove the credit for taxes paid to another state.

After step 2, it took me to a page where I see "Changing info on my return","Adding or updating a tax form" and "Something else", I guess I have to chose "Something else", if I don't want to amend the federal return, right?
If you need to amend your state tax return only, follow these instructions.
