I have efiled federal and state returns at the same time and paid $25 for CA state filing. Then I received an email stating state return was rejected due to an error while federal return is accepted. I have fixed the error on the state return but I am not allowed to only efile state. So I seleted to efile federal and state both. The messages says "The submission is a duplicate of one that was perviously received. Please contact customer service." I am getting no where. Please let me know what I can do.

When you are in the File section of the program and need to only file your state tax return select E-file on the first page of the File section. On the following page for the Federal tax return only select Do not e-file my federal return now. Continue the File section and e-file the state tax return.
I tried. It says "You will need to efile this return at the same time as federal return or after the federal return has been efiled." Then I can only hit continue button, which brings me back to the first step of FILE for seclection again.
I think the issue is that the software does not recognize that the federal tax return has been e-filed and accepted by the IRS.
What is the status of the federal tax return when you click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen and Electronic Filing>Show Electronic Filing History
You are correct. It says I have not efiled any returns. But the earlier message says it is a duplicate. It’s confusing…. What can I do now?
You can try and get assistance from TurboTax support but since is the final week before taxes are due it may be awhile before you get any help.

Your other option would be to just print and mail the state tax return.
