Got W2 Correction this year not sure how to file
Hello,
I had to get a W2C this year but not sure how to file my state return. The reasoning is my employer put down the wrong state for my W2. I live in MI but they had CO down.
The W2C I got back has 1 page of COPY B - To be filled with Employee's FEDERAL Tax Return.
And the State is filled as BLANK.
And 2 pages of COPY 2 - To be filled with Employees's State, City, or Local Income Tax Return.
Which I am confused about. They are identical forms but with different values filled out.
The first page has State filled as BLANK, same as federal, second page has State filled as MI, which is my state.
State wages are also different, BLANK state one has really low value, like $2k. MI State one has the correct value. When I was looking up W2C, I was only expecting only 1 page of COPY 2.
When filing my state return, should I be using the 2nd page of COPY 2, one with MI State?
Also when filing my tax return, for both federal and state, do I need to submit the W2C?
Thank you!
