For CA tax withheld in 540NR Line 83, TurboTax asks me to enter manually. But it keeps going back to 'Check This Entry' even after I enter. I'm not able to e-file. Thanks

Try this procedure.

First, enter your California tax from Form 592-B or 593 in the federal return area:

  1. Select Federal in the left pane
  2. Select Deductions & Credits in the banner
  3. Scroll down and select the Show more dropdown to the right of Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  4. Select Start or Revisit to the right of Income Taxes Paid
  5. Under Other Income Taxes Paid in 2021, select Start or Revisit to the right of Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099
  6. Enter your amount in the state box, and select California from the dropdown

Then:

  1. Select the State tab in the left pane, and go to your California return.
  2. Click through until you get to the Take a look at California credits and taxes screen
  3. Scroll down to Payments and withholding, and select Start to the right of Real Estate and Other Withholding
  4. Answer Yes on the Any Real Estate or Other Withholding Forms? screen, which refers to Forms 592-B and 593.
  5. Enter the rest of your information as requested on the following screens.

I am having this issue filing my 2023 CA return and am stuck in a loop.  When I Check This Entry, everything is good, no changes, so I click Continue, but when I attempt to "Transmit" I'm back to Check This Entry.  I called TurboTax and spoke to a specialist who asked if I could re-install TurboTax.  I told her I would call back if not resolved.  Well, its not resolved.  Any assistance with this matter will be most appreciated.  I moved out of California this year, selling my home and vacant land which we used as our private campground.  The 593 for the home is exempt from withholding, whereas the 593 for the land was not and we paid when the sale closed.  Both properties closed before we moved.

Apparently its an issue with the CA programming in TurboTax.  I did call TurboTax back and informed there is a comment that if your filing status changed after escrow and before filing CA taxes to call California's Withholding Services Compliance at [phone number removed].  I called and all the representative could do was confirm I was using the correct forms (540NR and 593)--they couldn't give tax advice or how to use the software.   Since the TurboTax program won't let me e-File, I will be mailing in my CA return.
