If you have an amount on line 30 that means you said you did NOT receive the 3rd EIP payment and that you are getting it as a recovery rebate credit on your tax return. If that is not correct, then you answered incorrectly when you were asked to enter the amount from your letter 6475 in Federal Review.
If you received the EIP payment already, there should not be an amount on line 30. And....if you received the payment and have the amount on line 30 it will delay your refund for a long time.
Thank you. Very helpful. Just need to find IRS letter 6475 to confirm correct entry.
@dkmanchee You can also check your IRS account

Does anyone know exactly how long the delay is. Can't reach anyone at the IRS. Refund accepted on 2/9/21
Sorry 2/9/22
No, due to the unprecedented number of changes over the last two tax seasons it's very difficult to try to anticipate timeframes. This is challenging for everyone including the IRS.
The best resource for you may be the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS). They are in place to assist in situations where you are unable to obtain resolution on your own.
This will get the process started for you. It's not going to be a fast process because they are handling a large volume at this time.
If you do not hear from TAS within one week of submitting Form 911, contact the Taxpayer Advocate office where you originally submitted your request. Incomplete information or requests submitted to a Taxpayer Advocate office outside of your geographical location may result in delays.
There is also an IRSGo2 app that may be useful to track your refund status. (Where's my Refund?)
@Chrissyj0606 Seems like you are saying you made a mistake with the 3rd EIP payment. That mistake will result in a delay for your refund, but if that was your only mistake it seems like it is delaying refunds by two or three weeks at worst. The IRS is catching these EIP/line 30 mistakes and correcting them by reducing your refund if you claimed the credit incorrectly. Sit tight and wait for the IRS to process your return.
I don't remember putting anything there but there is. And there shouldn't be. But I hope it is not to long. Thank you
So I'm confused with line 30. My husband and I received 2 payments so we put the number from letter 6475 since we never received the 3rd payment. Our return was approved and then we checked our bank account and it was short by a significant amount and the irs rep said its because of the stimulus payments? Why would the stimulus payments cause us to lose money?
If you didn't receive the third payment, you can claim the Recover Rebate Credit on your return. If you are eligible, the credit will end up on line 30 of your 2021 Form 1040.
Letter 6475, shows the third Economic Impact Payment (EIP) received. If you received the letter, you probably received the payment. You can check your bank statement to confirm.
The IRS reviews the information you entered in your return and compares it with what they have in their database. If there are any discrepancies, they make adjustments accordingly and send your reduced refund.
Some common error found is incorrect stimulus payment.
The IRS will send you a letter explaining the adjustment, but it usually takes about three weeks to arrive. Check the IRS Where’s my refund? site to see what they adjusted and how it impacted your refund. It may take several days for the site to be updated.
So Krism0522, I thought I hadn't received the third payment (but I was mistaken) so I incorrectly said that on my return. When I checked the status of my refund using the IRS app, I found out that the IRS corrected my return and changed my refund amount (now I owe them money! Lol!). Sounds like they adjusted your return as well. I just finished looking up my stimulus payments because it was all so confusing, that's when I realized I actually had received the third payment.
@Lsa157 Thank you for posting your experience. There are a LOT more people out there that have made that same mistake but many of them do not realize it (yet) and think their refunds were "stolen" by TurboTax.
I submitted my 2021 tax return on 2/6/2022 and it was accepted shortly there after. It’s now 5/10/2022, I’ve call the Tax Advocate Service 3x and I’ve been able to get through to the IRS 2x. The first time I spoke with a rep at the IRS, they said I should be ok at the “10 week mark”. That was last week. No refund received yet. I got through finally again last week and was told I had to wait 16 ADDITIONAL WEEKS. This is maddening. I did not receive a 3rd stimulus payment and I have NO idea what the issue is. I’ve received no correspondence from the IRS and when I get a rep on the phone no one can tell me what’s wrong or how long it will take. I’m sitting here waiting for over $5k that I need. Super frustrating all of the waiting on hold to only find out they can’t tell you what the hold up is. And by the way, in 20 years I have NEVER had an issue with my taxes. Ever.
