Do I need to send in my Michigan Home Heating Credit Claim form myself

Yes, if you e-filed your return, the Michigan Home Heating Credit would have been submitted with the electronic filing, and you would not need to mail in a copy.  You can verify the pdf of your return once the e-file has been completed.  To view a copy of your return, you can follow these steps in TurboTax Online:

  • Select Preview or print returns if your return has been accepted, or
  • Select Your tax returns & documents to expand them if needed and select Download/print return (PDF)

Do I need to send in my Michigan Home Heating Credit Claim form myself

The Michigan Home Heating Credit form MI 1040CR-7 may be submitted by mail before September 30, 2023 if the form has not been e-filed.

You may not have received the credit because you did not qualify for the Michigan Home Heating Credit?

You can claim this credit if your household income is low, depending on the number of exemptions you claim on your return, and you paid home heating bills between November 1, 2021 and October 1, 2022. The maximum eligible household income is:

$14,957 if you claim none or one exemption on your tax return

$20,157 if you claim two exemptions
$25,357 if you claim three exemptions
$30,528 if you claim four exemptions
$35,729 if you claim five exemptions
$40,929 if you claim six exemptions

The maximum household income of $40,929 increases by $5,200 for each exemption you claim over six.

You may qualify for an alternate credit if your household income isn't over $16,387 and you claim none or one exemption if your household income isn't over $22,051 and you claim two exemptions or if your household income isn't over $27,720 if you claim 3 exemptions or if your household income isn't over $30,364 and you claim 4 or more exemptions.
