So if I did NJ first I should go back and delete NJ and redo?
That should not be necessary. Complete the NY non-resident return and then go back to NJ to verify the NY income/tax transfered properly to the NJ credits section for the "Credit for taxes paid to another state."
Also note if your W2 has state lines for both NY and NJ then when asked in the NJ wage allocation section select the "NY" line to be removed from the NJ return.
