Can you e-file federal and New York State without a driver's license or state ID?

It’s not a requirement to enter your driver’s license or state ID to file the return (unless in Alabama or Illinois, since they require it), but could delay it being processed in some states if you do not enter it. There is nothing else besides those two to use if it's required, when e-filing. Otherwise, you'd have to print and mail the return. 

Some states may request your driver’s license number for state tax returns because they have the ability to match state records and help confirm your identity.
