I filled out the Federal 1040 with schedule 1, schedule C, and schedule SE for 1099-NEC income for both my husband and myself. We each had 1099-NEC income along with W-2 income. Can we still file married filing jointly? I did everything on paper and I filled out those 3 schedules for each of us and added the totals together to put on the main 1040 form, is that correct? Or do we have to file seperately and lose the EIC?
Also, if on schedule SE, on line 4c, where it says stop if less than $400 that we don't owe, that I don't fill out any more information on that form and just attach it? It might sound silly to question this, but I feel like it's a trap!!

Yes you can file a 1099NEC and Schedule C for each of you. You will need to use the Online Self Employed version or any of the Desktop CD/Download programs. All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.
Turbo Tax will fill out the Schedule SE for self employment tax. Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) is automatically generated if a person has $400 or more of net profit from self-employment. You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit (If it is greater than $400). The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare. So you get social security credit for it when you retire.
medicare has no limit for the amount of wages and self-employment income subject to the tax. FICA does. so for each of you from the $147K max taxable your social security wages will be deducted before any balance from SE income is taxed
