NC e-file date has slipped to 2/28/22, and could go even later. (NC DOR says "processing scheduled to begin week of 2/28/22.")
Problem is, after first of March, if past experience applies, TT will jump the cost to e-file. Can I initiate the state e-file process now, pay my $20, save my return without transmitting it, and later re-open the return and e-file it?

Yes you can. Because paying for your TurboTax Online fees is separate from e-filing your return, you can pay at any time prior to filing your return. For step-by-step instructions to pay, refer to the following Help Article: How can I pay my TurboTax Online fees?
You also have the option to file your Federal return now and save State for later.
I'm not sure how it works in the Desktop program. I don't know if you can pay now and not file state yet. I don't remember what happens right after you pay. If you can stop or it files it.
I just received confirmation that state e-filing charges (Desktop programs only) are scheduled for price increase on March 1. Users should be able to, even with all these crazy delays, still be able to e-file your state return at the original price.
