I work in NYC but live in NJ.
My w2 for NYC lowers my income because of pre-tax payments for our family healthcare premiums. On my w2 I see ~$XXk listed in 12a as 'dd' for healthcare premiums.
However, on my NJ w2 there is no break for this.
When I'm going through my NJ interview in Turbotax I'm asked if I have any medical expenses. The question is: "Do you have any NJ medical insurance premiums included in your NJ wages but NOT in your federal wages on your w2, and NOT deducted on Federal Schedule A?"
I don't see any itemized deductions on my Federal Schedule A. However, I do see the 12a dd $XXk amount listed on my federal w2.
I'm confused by the language in Turbotax. Does this mean I CANT deduct the healthcare premiums? Or, I can?

There is no tax deduction for pre-tax health care premiums paid, which are shown in Box 12 as dd. Code DD amounts are for informational purposes only—they don't affect the numbers in your tax return.
If you have any premiums that you share with an employer, then your share of those premiums are not deductible because they are generally paid for with pre-tax dollars. Since these earnings were never included in your gross income or taxed (premiums are usually paid for with pre-tax dollars), then you cannot have any tax benefits from the premiums.
The answer to the question, Do you have any NJ medical insurance premiums included in your NJ wages but NOT in your federal wages on your w2, and NOT deducted on Federal Schedule A? would be no because these premiums were not included in your wages.
Can I deduct health insurance premiums taken from my paycheck?
