I had less than $200 in earned income in CA.  Do I still need to file CA state tax retrun?  It will cost me ~$70 to file CA taxes - PLEASE HELP!

It depends. You don’t say whether you are a California resident, part-year resident or non-resident.

Tap the link for resident, part-year resident or nonresident to see the different filing requirements.

A good way to tell whether you need to file is to start a California return in TurboTax Online. File a return if you owe. If you are getting a refund, it’s up to you. If you don’t file, you’ll lose your refund, but there’s no penalty for not filing.

If TurboTax Online shows $0 – or if you are getting a refund and choose not to file – you can delete state before filing. TurboTax Online won’t charge you if you delete before you file.

You may be able to file for free using CalFile.

Ernie, this is very helpful.

I am a full-time resident of GA and have been for several years.  However, I was in CA on company business for a week several years ago and there is some incentive money from back then that the company continues to report.  The money for 2021 was <$200 on which they withheld CA taxes.  Wondering if I need to file or not given the small amounts of earnings and taxes in CA.
