Hello,
I was a resident of CA until 8/2016, at which point I moved to SC (and have lived in SC since). I'm filling out my state return for CA through TurboTax, and at one point it asks:
"Your State of Domicile
Enter your state or country of domicile. Domicile is the place where you've established your true home and you plan to make your permanent home. Where were you domiciled?"
The "were" part is throwing me off. Would I enter CA or SC here?

In this context, "Your State of Domicile" refers to your state of domicile at the "present", which for the 2016 tax year is 12/31/2016. That would be SC.
The question would be better stated as "Where were you domiciled (on 12/31/2016)?"
If you answered the Personal Interview questions correctly, the CA state tax interview will ask the right questions to determine when you stopped being a resident of CA.
