CA Non-Resident Loss

I will be receiving a K-1 showing a business loss in California. I am a non-resident and this is the only income/loss I have in CA.

1) Do I need to file to report this loss?

2) Can the loss be carried forward to offset gains in later years?

Thanks!

If you think you will have future gains in CA, then you need to file a 2020 CA return to report the loss. Otherwise, there is a good chance (certainty?) that CA will not recognize the offsetting loss in future years.
