I submitted AZ return on Friday, January 31 and it rejected due to a form they said wasn't quite ready. I went back into Turbo Tax and refiled that return on Saturday, February 1. It says it takes 24-48 hours for a response and I don't have anything and I'm now +72 hours. Is there a way to find out where it is? Feels like it is stuck in limbo....AZ Dept Revenue shows no record of the return arriving there.

To be clear, it was the Department of Revenue in Arizona that told you that the form was not ready, or TurboTax?
If your return was "rejected" by the state, then it is as if you never filed.
Also, what form are you talking about?
Thank you for your follow up questions! I'm trying to file our AZ individual 140 return. I checked the box in TT to be notified about my returns via text/email so I'm assuming it is TT who let me know it was rejected and TT status currently shows 'pending'. From that same text number, I was notified my federal return was accepted. I also received an email from TT that fed was accepted and that there was action needed on AZ

AZ 2019 Business Expenses - Your Arizona return was rejected due to pending product updates relating to Business Expenses. This update has been released. Re-transmit the return. |
I did as was directed above and then received an email stating that it was pending and I should hear in 24-48 hours. And yes, AZ doesn't show its filed on their website so did assume its not filed. Just not sure where it is and how long I wait for a follow up response from someone? TT or AZ or? Maybe the 24-48 doesn't count weekends?....Don't know what's going on 'behind the scenes' so I'm not sure exactly what to do. Perhaps I'm impatient! That wouldn't be a surprise.
I don't know if the State of Arizona or TurboTax gave you these messages.
But it sounds like you are doing the right thing. I would encourage you to give it another 2-3 days before sounding the alarm.
I had exactly the same message. I went in and re-submitted and now its been several days of pending...I'm not sure what the next step would be.
It has now been five days for me (re-filed 1/2 at 7am). I'll proceed with the respond-er above...please let me know if things change for you and I'll do the same.
Hello.....I'm now at 5 full days (counting the weekend) and no word re-filed on 2/1 at 7am). What would you suggest I do to uncover what might be going on. I feel a bit like it might just be stuck in limbo! don't mind waiting a few more days if that is your suggestion, but something doesn't feel right to me.
So this email message and a text just arrived:
AZ 2019 Business Expenses - Your Arizona return was rejected due to pending product updates relating to Business Expenses. This update has been released. Re-transmit the return. And it's basically what TT says when I check the status of my return. Here's what I did. I reviewed every form in Fed and State that is part of my filing. I found a few that I must have opened and then had nothing to add/do with me so I exited them. I DELETED every one of those if they had no data except my name/ss on them. I really have no business expenses other than Schedule E-rental property so I don't know what "business expenses" form AZ could be speaking of. So in deleting a few forms....maybe I fixed the problem. If it gets rejected again I will likely just print and file.
From what I have learned states will sometimes have software updates that must be completed prior to accepting efilings (in this instance in the matter of business expense reported). I have heard of updates taking up to a month at times which stinks if you have already paid TT to file your state taxes for you as you would lose that money if you go on to simply paper file rather than to continue to resubmit time and again. You can go to AZtaxes.gov and live chat to inquire about that particular product update and whether it has been released or if there is a date when you can file without risk for further rejections. Other times it is an issue on TT's end but they should have informed you if it was so (i.e. a update of their software).
