Will Georgia do an ACH direct debit from checking for the amended return tax amount, just the same as they did after I filed the initial return. It said they would and I entered my info, but nothing has been debited yet.
Give it time or do I need to mail in? Don't want to do both and pay double.

It depends on how the amended return was filed.
If the return was filed electronically, then mailing your payment to the state of Georgia seems to be the only option. There is not a space on the amended Georgia Form 500X to show information for a direct debit for the tax payment owed.
If you filed the return by mail, then a payment should have been enclosed with the amended return.
You can also make a tax payment online to the Georgia Department of Revenue. Use the following link to get started:
So even though it asked me for the info (and the original tax payment pre-amendment was debited electronically), I will need to mail in the additional amended tax amount?
The amended return was e filed and accepted just like the original. Do I need to print and send the entire return or just the coupon with a check?
I just called the GA DOR and actually got through to a human in a reasonable time. 👍
She said if I filed electronically and put debit from checking as the payment, that it should be electronically debited from my bank account.
TurboTax says the amended return was accepted by the state on Friday 4/18, but they were closed for the Good Friday holiday. So I was told they don’t see it in their system yet and to wait 24/48 hours.
In case anyone sees this while searching…
The amended return payment was debited electronically from my bank account like the original payment. It just took an extra day, maybe because of the Good Friday holiday.
But the original response to me here was incorrect, and if you choose electronic debit, they will debit your payment directly. Nothing else to do.
