Alimony Massachusetts

I entered the Alimony I received in Turbo Tax on the Federal side (which is not taxed based on my divorce date), BUT it is taxed in Massachusetts, and the amount is not transferring over to the State income line.  I also can't seem to override or add an addtional income line using the Online Version - can someone please assist

Alimony Massachusetts

Yes, the law was recently updated Jan 5, 2023 in Massachusetts to reflect IRS guidelines for tax year 2022. Meaning alimony paid is no longer deductible, and alimony received is no longer taxable for divorces or separations that happened after December 31, 2018 as it was before; they now conform to IRS guidelines. Please read Code Update in this link for mass.gov saying alimony is no longer deductible and alimony received is no longer taxed: Code §§ 61(a)(8) and 62(a)(10):  Repeal of inclusion of alimony received as gross income and repeal of deduction for alimony payments.

Remember, for tax year 2022, alimony received is not taxed in MA for certain situations depending on date, etc. Hope this helps. The program is correct.
