My granddaughters home resident is in California and is going to school in Flagstaff Arizona. She received a W2 for part time work in Arizona for just under $11K. Fed and State taxes were also withheld. I filed a Federal return, Does she need to file with both states; Calif. tax board and Arizona State tax board? If she does have to file with both, does she file as a non resident in Arizona? Parents are claiming her as their dependent.

A student who is away to attend school is still considered a resident of her home state, and a non-resident of the other state (AZ). Make certain that she indicates that 'someone' else can claim her' in the My Info section.
When completing the state tax returns, it is recommended that she complete the non-resident state tax return first before a resident return (if required). See instructions below.
