I live in Indiana but our company HQ is in Missouri. The company takes MO State Taxes out of my income since they do not have an Indiana operation but I do ZERO work in the State of Missouri and I have no residence there at all. Maybe twice a year I stay in a hotel for a few days at best.
When loading my W2 information into Turbo Tax, even after selecting that 100% of my income was remote work, the system still wants to charge me additional tax. Even better, it is applying Missouri tax to investment income and my spouses earned work income and she has nothing to do with Missouri. I have confirmed my address and information is correct for Indiana and confirmed I am using the correct Missouri Non-Resident form. The state of my residence is Indiana when going through the Turbotax Missouri Non-Resident steps.
When allocating my income for Captial Gains this process in TurboTax automatically has that field populated from the Federal Return with no ability to edit, which is WRONG since I do not live in MO.
I made sure that the "Remote work" field showed all the income earned outside of Missouri for both me and my spouse as per the help instructions showing that whatever value is entered here is deducted from Missouri reporting.
On the final summary screen, Turbotax is still showing a $781 tax against my spouse 23K earned in Indiana and having nothing to do with MO. It's also showing 2,500 worth of tax against my Missouri Source Income (my employer) even though it was reported all along that I do not live in MO and this was remote work. Frankly, this is infuriating to me and hasn't changed since I started this return two months ago. Am I entering something wrong here?
