I'm about to Sign my 2023 Return
To Sign I need to enter the 2023 e-filing PIN, the text box only has 5 digits, but the PIN that I entered under Federal Taxes -> Other Tax Situations -> Identity protection PIN that I entered is 6 digits.
The last digit is missing and the text box in the e-file section won't let me enter the last 6th digit
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
The 5 digit e-file PIN and the 6 digit IP PIN are totally separate. Enter any 5 digits to e-file the tax return.
TurboTax should be very explicit on this regard.
Every year I hit the same problem and of course I always forget how I solved it the year before.
If this is true then why did the numbers that were rolled over from last year not work? I am having the same problem. I have a 6 digit number from the IRS, but Turbo Tax will only take 5 digits. I just resubmitted with a different 5 digit number. Hopefully that works.

The 6 digit IP PIN you received from the IRS is not used in the File section of the program where you select any self-selected 5 digit PIN to e-file the tax return. The 6 digit IP PIN Is entered here -
To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button
Trying to sign my 2023 Fed Tax return. My assigned PIN is 6 digits.
The box only allows 5 digits.
What do I do?

Followed instructions you sent-under "other tax situations".
I entered the 6 digit # sent by the IRS.
The box to sign my completed return does not accept the 6th digit !
What do I do Now !

When you are in the File section of the program the PIN you enter is for e-filing, it is not the 6 digit IP PIN you received from the IRS. You can enter any 5 digit number for the e-file PIN.
The IRS issued a 6 digit pin number and Turbo Tax only allows 5 digits

The six-digit PIN issued by the IRS is an Identity Protection PIN. The five-digit e-file PIN isn't issued by the IRS. It can be whatever five digits you want it to be. It's essentially your electronic signature.
If you need to enter your IP PIN, you can follow these instructions.
