Can I contribute $6500.00 to an IRA if I am not 70 and 1/2 on 31 Dec 2018 if contribution is made between 1 Jan 2019 & 15 Apr 2019?

Can I still contribute $6500.00 to an IRA for 2018 if I turn 70 1/2 on 13 Mar 2019 and ontribute after 31 Dec 2018 but befre 15 Apr 2019? I am retired no earned income. Spouse earned income over $16,000.00.
