Hi,
This is the first time I'm doing my mom's taxes because of Covid. She receives a RRB-1099 (she get's that from my late father).
I've entered the information in, along with the state, and TT says it's not eligible for Electronic Filing. What???
It says the details are "all of the following lines of Form 1040 have 0"
line 9 - total income
line 11- adjusted gross income
line 16 - tax
line 18 - total tax before credits and other taxes
line 21 - total credits
line 24 - total tax
line 33 - total payments
I realize she doesn't owe fed tax because the income level is so low, but she did have income from the railroad retirement.
Did I make a mistake here? I live in a different state so it makes no sense to print the forms and mail them to her to sign to send in. Was only doing this to avoid her going over to where the state helps completes forms for people (wanting to keep her safe from Covid). This seems off to me.
Help!!

The RRB-1099 benefits are like social security benefits. They are only taxable if your mom's income reaches a certain level. Is this the only income she has? Did she also receive a RRB-1099R? The RRB-1099 is blue and the RRB-1099R is green. The RRB-1099R would be the railroad pension. These are separate forms and if she received them both, they both need to be entered into TurboTax. Click here for more information on entering Railroad Retirement.
If the only income she has is the RRB-1099, check with her and see if she has $1 of interest income. She then would be able to efile.
