Why can't i add my 1099-nec

You haven't described any roadblock or any error message.

A 1099-NEC is for non-employee income. such as income received from self-employment, independent contractor, sole proprietor, etc.   Is that the type of income on your 1099-NEC?

What Online Edition are you using--Free, Deluxe, Premium?

What happens when you follow this pathway:

With your return open, go to the left menu column and click TAX TOOLS, then subtab TOOLS.

In the Tools window click the blue button TOPIC SEARCH.

In the search line enter 1099-NEC

Make the selection in the list (it may already be highlighted), and double-click on it, or click on GO.
