I’m filling out tt online for 2024 return in February 2025. I have done this for years. I turned 71 September 2024. My wife has been taking inherited IRA RMD for years, and i have completed those steps for her for in our joint returns.
I do not understand why tt ask this question for 2024 return (February 2025): “did Thomas take the RMD for 2024 for all of Thomas’ retirement accounts that have this requirement? From what you’ve told us, Thomas’ total RMD is zero.” Then it asks, “What if I have other retirement accounts?”
Why is tt asking a 71 year old “did you take RMD” when I don’t have RMD. I first answered “no,” confused, then switched to “yes” when tt asked further questions that indicated if WAS looking for RMD.

Answer NO for yourself since no Required Minimum Distribution is required for you at age 71 and you do not have the inherited account.
The program may ask since your wife needed to take one but you should continue without entering a distribution for yourself if none was taken.
KrisD15, thanks for your input! Unfortunately, this TurboTax question is somewhat misleading. In my case, “yes” results in the program continuing under my RMD of $0.0. A “no” answer results in a message in red: “We recommend waiting to file your taxes.” And that TT: “We’re working on some updates related to THOMAS’ required minimum distribution……check back here later on.”
So, either I’m having a senior moment, OR, TT presents a complex/misleading question.
Hopefully, TurboTax will provide clarification.
