What 1099 section are you talking about? There are many 1099s - which one are you referring to?
Thanks for your response.
Any 1099... it seems the software requires some kind of income before it will allow me to proceed. I was trying to input my home office info, and it kept saying it needed to verify income to proceed. I tried a entering "O," I also tried just deleting the income section, thinking that would inform the software that incomer was "0"... nothing works. I'm stumped.
You can look for 1099 forms in your program and delete any that are there in error. That may resolve your issue.
A simple way to delete forms in TurboTax online is to use the Tax Tools menu option, which is on your left menu bar when you are working in your program. Then, choose Tools and then Delete a form.
If you are working in the download TurboTax program, use the Forms Mode on your menu bar to bring up the form you want to delete, then choose the Delete Form option at the bottom of the form.
I am having the same problem. I am a new Real Estate agent as of 2021 and I am trying to report my expenses. I did not sell a home in 2021 as I started at the end of the year. Since I was paid no commission I did not receive any 1099 forms but I definitely incurred several expenses.
It accepted my start-up costs and my professional and legal fees. It doesn't take anything off for my home office however since my income cannot be entered as zero.
Hmm... I haven't gotten that far yet.
So you're saying all the other itemized sections worked fine EXCEPT the section for home office expenses/deductions?
Thanks!
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I didn't have any problem deleting the 1099; however, that didn't fix the home office deduction issue. Without any 1099 info entered, the software will not accept any home office deduction info. This strikes me as a glitch in the software, and is very frustrating as it is not unusual at all during the Covid years for self-employed individuals to have no income yet still have expenses related to the work they were trying to do.
Thank you again.
I only had entries for Start Up Costs and Legal & Professional Fees. Both of those sections seemed to work so far though.
The Home Office Deduction is only available to the extent of your Net Income from the related business. If you have no income for the year, you may not report a Home Office Deduction.
Additional Info: IRS Pub 587 Business use of Your Home - Deduction Limit
That would explain it. Thank you very much!
