TT keeps asking: What year was the lump-sum payment for? But I never received a lump sum payment. How can I bypass or fix this question and complete my filing?

It sounds like you are in the Social Security income section and indicated that a lump sum payment had been received.

Use the following steps to go back to the beginning of the Social Security income section.  After you have verified the information you entered and clicked Continue, you will see a question about receiving a lump sum payment.  Be sure to answer 'no' in order to move forward with your return.

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “social security income” and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to social security income
  • Click on the blue “Jump to social security income” link
