Teachers received a lump sum social security payment earlier this year for years of underpayments. TuTx asks what year it applies. There is no such info. What to do?

I suppose it's possible to take years retired, divide payment by these years, but is this rational or accurate?

Wait for the SSA1099 that will be mailed to you.    You will receive a SSA1099 in January when Social Security mails them out to you,  and you will enter that SSA1099 just as it appears.   You will not have to break down what years the increase was for, since you received it in 2025.   It will be 2025 income.

It might help you to read this information from Social Security regarding the "Fairness Act".   The lump sum you received was not a payment that went back for all the "years" since you retired--- it was retroactive for tax year 2024  and it was paid to you in one lump sum for 2024-- a payment which you received in 2025.

Wait for the SSA1099 and then go through the interview questions in TurboTax carefully to enter the information .
