SSA-1099SM

Box 5 of my SSA-1099SM form is blacked out.   Do I enter the amount from Box 3 since there is nothing in Box 5?

Box 5 is the amount from box 3 minus box 4.  Enter that amount in box 5 if a positive number.

Thank you.  Box 5 is shaded in black.  So, since that box is the difference between box 3 and 4, should I enter the amount showing in Box 3 instead?
The Turbo tax screen says to enter box 5.

Never seen a box 5 blacked out on a Form SSA-1099.  Did you receive this form directly from the Social Security Administration mailed to your home address?

Yes, enter the amount shown in box 3 for the amount in box 5.

I would go online and get another copy of the SSA-1099.   Did it come in the mail that way?   Box 5 is  actually  shaded in pink or red.  Yours must be too dark.  I can read some of the text in it.

Thank you so much!!!

Thanks so much! Yes it appears dark.    I looked more closely at the box and can now see some text in it.

Form SSA-1099-SM has an amount, deductions for work or other deductions, do I need to list this somewhere?

SSA-1099SM

Yes you have to enter the SSA-1099.  Is that what you are asking?   Where does it show deductions for work or other deductions?  You only enter box 5 for benefits and the Medicare deduction and any federal withholding in box 6.

Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099  under

Federal Taxes on the left side or top

Wages and Income

Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit  button

Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:

Married Filing Jointly: $32,000

Single or head of household: $25,000

Married Filing Separately: 0
