SSA-1099 missing unable to enter TT Premier
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Please clarify it is being entered in the Step-by-Step process. If not, be sure to use that and follow the steps below.
All SSA-1099 forms get entered in the same place:
If you have additional questions or are unable to enter your form please use the steps below if you choose.
If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
I tried both Step by step and searching forms... no SSA-1099
OK, let's try a different way...
Navigate to Wages & Income->Retirement Plans and Social Security->Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), then check that you had Social Security and enter the numeric amounts.
Note the navigation above is from the CD/download product, but the Online product should be similar.
I also have that problem. And when attempting to open the search bar, just get "Connecting you to Digital Assistant..." with the spinner. Does not get to a point where I can enter "the term Social Security benefits"
I uninstalled Turbotax Premier, reinstalled, updated and still the same situation. Unable to proceed.
If you are trying to enter or change your Social Security Income, review the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter an SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM, or SSA-1099-R-OP1? for navigation instructions.

Seems to be right there in the Menu (for the desktop users)
.......BUT...is the actual problem, you may be experiencing, one where you hit the Start (or Update) button on that menu line....but it ends up dumping you back in the menu??? That's a different software bug not yet fixed...but a workaround exists until they get it fixed (IF they ever do....2 months now and counting).

Desktop search does not function. Unable to "Jump"
Don't jump...just "I'll choose what I work on" and use the menu
Yes, when clicking on the Update button to enter SSA-1099, it just ends up displaying the same screen again.
Really need Intuit to step up the pace of fixing the bug.
OK...that's a different Known bug for the desktop software.
.....Hope to H.E.doublehockey sticks it's being worked on.

That error tracks to the fact that you used a Supporting Details (SD) worksheet in a prior year for at least one of the fields on the SSA-1099 form worksheet that TTX uses in the background.
AND this year's BIG BUG is that it screws up the interview....dumping you back to the interview menu.
The workaround solution is to switch to Forms Mode, and enter your SSA-1099 data into lines A, B, C, D, E in the Soc Security benefits worksheet. As you enter that data (lines are labeled as to what boxes are used), you should find that one or more of the entries has an SD sheet attached to it. If you delete every SD sheet, you should get access to it in that interview again. When you first open the SS Benefits worksheet in Forms Mode, one or more of the lines for A,B,C,D,E will have a 0. in it...that line has an SD sheet. As soon as you try to enter a $$$ amount on that line, the SD sheet will pop up if there is one. (yeah, line C is probably blank for most people)
I suggest deleting any SD sheet you find, if you don't need it this year
Stinks....but that's the workaround.
I'll attempt that in the morning.
And Thanks!
Yep....time to switch off for some of us in the Eastern time zone, and chill down for an hour, so we can sleep.
I edited some of my text above...in the middle of the night, I remembered that when you are in Forms Mode, when you first open the Social Security Benefits worksheet...any of the fields for lines A,B,C,D,E on that sheet that have and SD worksheet attached to it? ....Those lines will have a 0. on it. That's because the SD worksheet transferred in from last year, but it is empty of any $$ value right now......at least until you enter something in it
