Efile was rejected. IRS says my dependent's SSN was used for a separate filing, or as someone else's dependent. Neither should be correct. What should I do next?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
First, you will need to contact the IRS. 1-800-829-1040
Next you can leave the dependent on your tax return, but you will need to mail this. You cannot efile if you leave this dependent on your tax return. And when mailing, you can still choose direct deposit.
The IRS will see that your dependent has been claimed already, they will investigate the other tax return which claimed your dependent, then they will allow you to claim your dependent.
To print your tax return:
>Go to Tax Tools, (bottom left),
>Print Center,
>Print, Save or preview this year's return, click all official forms required for filing
Then, follow the directions to choose which forms you would like to include in your print out.
Note: You will be asked to pay for your program (if you upgraded) before printing.
