Social security income

I was told by Social Security I did not need a W-2 and my total income for the year of 1016 from SSA and I was paid 21,406.80

That is correct.  The only thing you would receive from the Social Security Administration is a Form 1099-SSA.

It's likely it may not be taxable at all, if that's your only income and you are not filing married filing separately if you live with your spouse.  You can enter it to be sure, by using the steps here.  If there was a lump sum payment TurboTax will handle that too.

1. Sign into your TurboTax account (online or desktop)
2. Use the search box in the upper right
3. Search for ssa1099
4. Jump to ssa1099 (see image attached)
5. Continue to make the proper entries
