I opened a Roth IRA in March and put in 5500.00. I'd already filed my tax return. I know that it won't reduce my taxable income but I want to make sure it's counted as a 2019 contribution so that I will be able to continue to contribute in 2020 (since I'm so close to the limit on contributions to IRAs). Should I do an amended return to add the 5500. to the Roth IRA for 2019? I've notified the administrator of the IRA that it should be counted for 2019 and he will need to file the form 5498 in May.
