Yes. You'll receive Form 1099-LTC if you got money from long-term insurance or life insurance under an accelerated death benefits clause. You must enter this into TurboTax. You also might also be able to deduct nursing home expenses on Schedule A, if you itemize and the amount is over 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. Nursing home costs are tax-deductible if the primary reason for residence in a nursing home is to receive medical care.

Here's how to enter your 1099-LTC into TurboTax:

  1. Open (continue) your return if it's not already open.
  2. Search for this exact phrase (copy/paste strongly recommended): 1099-ltc, long-term care - distribution and select the Jump to link.
  3. On the Any Long-Term Care Contracts? screen, answer Yes to the first question (and Yes to the second question if it applies, otherwise No) and select Continue.
  4. Follow the instructions.

You can enter the portion of deductible nursing home expenses by following the steps below:

  1. With your return open, search for Schedule A and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  2. Enter your medical expenses, starting with prescriptions, on the following screens.
