Why is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box checked on my 1099R when I'm retired?

Forms 1099-R report distributions from retirement accounts.  The marking of the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box simply indicates that the distribution came from some type of traditional IRA.

Was it from your IRA?  Ask the plan if it wasn't from one of those 3 kinds of plans.
