What do I do if I, in my ignorance of this rule, said no one can claim me on their return, but turns out my mother can? Jan-July 2019 I lived and provided with by her.

August 2019 I moved out of state and started a job.

Jan 2020 I e-filed a return through Tubrotax and said no on could claim me because I honesty thought that me having my own W-2 means I could only claim myself now. I also have no children.

Even though my mother paid for everything for me and I lived with her from Jan to July I still started to get paid through my new job August 19.

My mother is doing her taxes now(efile), and noticed that when she took me off as a dependent her refund went down very considerably. She is just an elderly hourly worker, and that refund helps her every year.

I told her not to send yet,and let me do some research and that's when I found out that she can still claim me and get her full refund.

However, I think I just inadvertently messed her up because I have already filed and said no one could claim me.

What should she do?

What can I do?

What was your age at the end of 2019?  If you were 19 and not a full time student or permanently and totally disabled, your mother would not be able to claim you.
