I received a 1099-G. In box 2 it has the amount . Box 3 tax year- 12/31/2020. no option to select "2020" only 2019 and prior.

This was for a payment received for hazard pay being a nursing during COVID in Louisiana so it is under state/local income tax refund, credits, offsets

It is not necessary to include Box 3 of your 1099-G in TurboTax.

If you itemized on your prior year tax return you would record your 1099-G in TurboTax for Hazard Pay below:

  1. Open TurboTax.
  2. Go to Income.
  3. Scroll to Other Common Income.
  4. Click Start next to Refund Received for State/Local Tax Returns.
  5. Answer Yes to Did You Get a State or Local Tax Refund in 2020?
  6. Click on Continue.
  7. Enter the information from your 1099-G, For the tax year, choose 2019, Even if your form has tax year 2020.
  8. Click None of the Above when it asks Did Any of These Apply to You?
  9. Click on Continue.

If you chose the standard deduction on your prior year’s tax return, the work around to enter your 1099-G in TurboTax for Hazard Pay:

  1. Open TurboTax.
  2. Go to Income.
  3. Scroll to Other Common Income.
  4. Click Start next to Other 1099-G Income.
  5. Answer Yes to Do You Need to Enter Any of These Payments.
  6. When TurboTax asks What Type of Payment Did You Receive?  Click on Taxable Grant.
  7. Enter your 1099-G Information.
  8. Since there is no Box 3, you would ignore that.
  9. Click on Continue.
