Hello, After being pleased with Turbotax Premier (desktop) for my 21 taxes, I used it again for 22. When I got to the point to submit our 1099-R forms, I noticed the 1099-R from my wife's pension did not preload like all the other 1099s. Not a problem for this year, I just inputted it in manually, but now I wonder if I missed this 1099-R on our 21 tax return.
I searched our 21 return I saved in PDF format and while it shows the total dollar amount of the many 1099-Rs we had, I can't break it down to see the specific 1099-R forms I inputted. I then tried to reload the 21 version of TurboTax, but it fails on the install, saying it is missing a file. So, is their anyway I can verify if I included a specific 1099 before I send in unneeded amended 21 tax return? Thank you, Randy
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Take a look at the total reported on your 2021 Form 1040 for box 5a.
This amount should equal all of your Form 1099-Rs box 1 amounts added together for all Form 1099-R that did not have the IRA box checked. If line 5a is less than your total, then you may have missed an entry.
Thank you for your reply. That is exactly what I was planning to do, if I had no other way to specify each of the 1099-R forms.
However, since the 22 version of Turbotax can instantly pre-load the specifics of each form you submitted in 21, it obviously has that information stored in it, somewhere! The question is, how can it be accessed? Their has to be some way to easy find this. Anyone from Intuit able to address this? Thanks, Randy
Yes, that information is stored in your 2021 tax file that you used to start your 2022 tax return. Since you mentioned that one of the Form 1099-R did not carry over from 2021, it most likely was not entered in the 2021 tax return. Otherwise, it would be there in the 2022 return.
You also mentioned that you cannot reload the 2021 version of TurboTax. If you could, you would be able to print your complete return (or save it as a PDF) by choosing 'all forms and all worksheets'. That would include a page for each Form 1099-R that was entered.
If it turns out that you need to file an amended return for 2021, you are going to need access to the 2021 TurboTax program. You should contact customer service to get help with accessing the 2021 program. This will allow you to see your inputs and/or print the return to verify whether an amended return is needed.
