Sorry Turbo Tax can not provide that. Turbo Tax is a self prepared return. What do they want? What is your dependent eligible for? Why does your retirement plan want to know? If he is a full time student under 24 you can still claim him as a dependent.
Ask the insurance company what you're supposed to do if you did your taxes yourself and did not use a tax preparer.
The fact that the student files his own tax return does not mean that he is not your dependent. Is the problem that you did not claim him as a dependent on your tax return? If that's the problem, I think the insurance company is saying that you should go to a tax preparer, even if the preparer did not prepare your tax return, and get a letter saying that you could claim him. But no tax preparer is going to give you such a letter because tax preparers rely on the information that you give them. They do not investigate the facts independently.
You can use the tool at the following link on the IRS web site to determine whether you can claim the student as a dependent. If the tool says that you can claim him, maybe the insurance company will accept a printout of the IRS page that says you can claim him.
Whom May I Claim as a Dependent?
