Did you enter the Form 1099-R into the TurboTax program?

Enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R

If you entered the Form 1099-R what is shown on the federal tax return Form 1040 Line 5b?

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

Was there an amount entered on your Form 1099-R in box 2a?  What is the code in box 7 of the 1099-R?

Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box checked on the 1099-R?

Yes on Line 2A there is an amount entered. But TurboTax is not calculating it as income.  Line 7 is coding it as a "2".

Ok...Then delete the Form 1099-R and re-enter manually.  That should resolve this issue.

To enter, edit or delete a form 1099-R -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  • On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click the start or update button

Or enter 1099-r in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1099-R

To enter manually -

On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2020? Click on Yes

On the next screen click on Continue

On the screen Let's import your tax info Click on Change how I enter my form

On the screen How do you want to add your 1099‑R? Click on Type it in myself

unfortunately these steps do not resolve the issue. TurboTax is still not calculating it as income.

Then something else is going on.  I have entered on multiple occasions a Form 1099-R for my own pension income with a taxable amount in box 2a.  Plus have used codes 2 and 7 in box 7 over the past 18 years and always get a taxable amount entered on a Form 1040.
