That would be properly includable on your mother's final income tax return for the 2022 tax year.

An SSA-1099 will be issued in your mother's name.  This will be included in her final income tax return.

You have my deepest condolences.

 

It depends. You must file a final return for a decedent (a person who died) if both the following is true.

  • Your spouse died in 2022 or you are the executor, administrator, or legal representative.
  • The descendant met a filing requirement at the time of death.
