My 1099-B is missing cost basis information. How do I enter it myself such that TurboTax won't show "Needs Review"?

The item is a noncovered stock sale (not reported to the IRS by the broker). The broker has no cost basis information, so I need to enter it myself. When I do, no matter what I enter into TurboTax the item still shows "Needs Review" with no details about what exactly triggers that warning.

Correct, you have to enter the cost basis into the program. Return to the stock sale and edit. Go through that section of the program to get the program to understand you want that number in there.

If review pops up again, it should allow you to enter the missing information.

If it still acts ugly, you may have a piece of data stuck in there, probably a null space for the price.

For stuck information follow these steps:

  1. Delete the form, see How to Delete or delete just that sale, The whole sale- all information related to it.
  2. Log out of your return
    1. Try one or more of the following:
      • Don't use Internet Explorer.
      • Clear cache and cookies,
      • Sign in using a different browser.
      • Sign in using a different device.
  3. Log back into your return.
    • Enter the stock sale again.
