TurboTax will prepare Form 5329 for you, which will include the reason for missed RMD and request for penalty waiver. If MFJ, one form will be prepared. If you're using TurboTax Desktop, you can also access the 5329 in FORMS.
You'll see the amount on Schedule 2, Line 8, which will flow onto Form 1040, Line 23.
It is the plan administrator's responsibility to insure that RMD's are sent. You may want to verify that your RMD was not included in your 1099-R distribution. Here's more info on RMD's.
Yes, if you're using TurboTax Desktop, click the link at the upper right for Live Tax Advice for help in reviewing your return.
"It is the plan administrator's responsibility to insure that RMD's are sent."
Only for employer plans like a 401(k), not for IRAs. For IRAs it's the individual's responsibility to request the necessary distribution.
Retirement accounts are individual accounts, not joint accounts, The tax return must include a Form 5329 for each individual who missed an RMD. Each Form 5329 applies to a single individual.
