I've used Turbo Tax for years with no problem. I've used 1099s in the past, no problem. This year, after entering 1099 and expenses, when i go to file, Turbo Tax brings up a "Schedule C worksheet" and asks for a link. WHAT LINK? Everything in the help section claims that if I fill in 1099-NEC, turbo tax will "AUTOMATICALLY FILL OUT THE SCHEDULE C" so what is happening? This is exhaustive and keeps asking me to upgrade and pay more for answers. However, this seems like a problem with the Turbo Tax program versus user error. I'm doing everything it asks. HELP.

When you enter your 1099-NEC TurboTax prompts you with questions about your business before it takes you to the summary screen to enter expenses. You may need to go back to your Schedule C information to ensure everything is completed.
To do this in TurboTax Online you can follow these steps:
I'll try this as soon as I can. "you may have to go back to your Schedule C information" doesn't totally make sense to me tho. I can't see Schedule C anywhere in turbo tax and it keeps telling me to just add the 1099-NEC and it will automatically fill-out the schedule C.
I've almost always had mixed W-2 and 1099 tax years in past and don't know why this year is so much different. I could have filed forever ago without this glitch.
Currently there is a known issue when using TurboTax Online that is related to the program asking you to double-click to link to Schedule C.
You can review the information below for steps to possibly solve the issue.
Income reported on Form 1099-NEC must be reported on Schedule C, the program is trying to link these two forms together to be sure that it is reported correctly and on the right form.
Revisit the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry, by following these steps:
This will bring you a summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered. Click Delete or the Trash can icon next to each one.
Next, you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC as part of the Schedule C so that the income is reported directly as part of your Business Income and Expenses and within the correct form and section of your return.
Follow these steps to go to the Schedule C section of your return:
If you already have created a Schedule C in your return, click on edit and go to the section to Add Income. This is where you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC.
If you do not already have a Schedule C in your return, follow the prompts and enter the information about your work/business for which you received the Form 1099-NEC. Then continue through that section to Add Income and enter the Form 1099-NEC along with any additional income you received for that business.
Once you have completed this, the error should be eliminated.
Thanks for taking the time to try to answer my question! I couldn't take the glitch anymore and filed yesterday (for FREE) with an IRS suggested website. It's wild, I entered the same information and got back $500 more from Fed and about $100 more on State refund than TT was posting. It took a couple more hours to do everything again, but it was worth it. Turbo Tax needs to fix this - you shouldn't have to jump through hoops that don't even work to file fairly simple taxes.
